“I was a victim of substance abuse. It was my solace after my mum died and my dad became an alcoholic when I was 16. Although I lost only my mum, my fatherly figure left me as well. Despite growing up in a Christian home, I cursed God for what He allowed me to go through before turning to drugs and away from Him. They held off the pain for a while until I decided to give God one final chance by accepting an invitation to a church youth camp. ‘I’ll be done with You if You don’t show up’, was what I told God. Following the response of an altar call, I opened up about my problems to the church counsellors. I prayed by myself that night, asking for a confirmation and I was convinced that I received it after. So began my life with and my hunger for Jesus. DTS for me was so foundational, especially on the reality of God’s immeasurable grace in my life. One time during that week, I remembered that a conviction hit me so hard that, instead of going for lunch, I grabbed my Bible, ran into the prayer room, and started weeping and crying out to God, declaring, ‘I am free!’
After my DTS, I came home to my dad, drastically changed and now on fire for Jesus. God answered all the prayers that I have petitioned for him during that six months. We opened up to each other, cried together, and God restored our relationship. I came back for SBS because I want to be transformed into the likeness of Christ through His Word. I hope to encourage the Body of Christ with what I will learn and how I am reflect Jesus in this season of renewing myself in the word of the LORD.”
