Jeugd met een Opdracht (JmeO) is een internationale en interkerkelijke zendingsbeweging die actief is in ongeveer 180 landen. Wereldwijd werken circa 20.000 fulltime vrijwilligers bij Jeugd met een Opdracht. Al deze mensen zijn toegewijd aan hun passie: God kennen en Hem bekend maken. Dit wordt op drie verschillende gebieden gedaan door:

Evangelisatie
Sommige creatieve gereedschappen die worden gebruikt om het evangelie te presenteren, zijn drama, muziek, andere kunstzinnige uitingen en sportactiviteiten. We proberen ons geloof effectief te delen, op manieren die het publiek – of het nou tieners, vluchtelingen of indianen uit het regenwoud zijn – begrijpt. JmeO is betrokken in kerkstichting onder volkeren die het evangelie nog niet kennen.

Hulpverlening
Hulpverlening is de ‘handen en voeten’ van het evangelie. JmeO helpt bij het tegemoet komen aan de praktische en lichamelijke noden van naar schatting jaarlijks zo’n 400.000 mensen. Zorg voor straatkinderen in Zuid-Amerika, aids-wezen in Afrika, hulp bij herstel van drugsverslaafden in Noord-Amerika en West-Europa, eten geven aan vluchtelingen en nooddruftige vrouwen in Afrika en Azië, hospitaalschepen die het evangelie praktisch en met woorden verkondigen: het zijn enkele van de manieren waarop helpende handen tot uiting komen.

Training en discipelschap
Training en discipelschap zijn bedoeld om christenen beter toe te rusten tot dienstbaarheid in van alles van landbouw en gezondheidszorg tot reïntegratie na verslaving en pastoraat. Op JmeO’s University of the Nations kunnen zendelingen verdere studie volgen op specialistische gebieden als wetenschap en technologie, taalwetenschap, menswetenschappen en christelijk werk. De meeste JmeO-opleidingen combineren onderwijs in de klas met discipelschap in relaties en praktische dienstbaarheid.

Jeugd met een Opdracht is in 1960 opgericht door de Amerikaan Loren Cunningham. Hij kreeg een visioen tijdens één van zijn evangelisatiereizen. Daarin spoelden golven aan op het strand, het strand veranderde in een kaart met alle continenten van de wereld en de golven werden jonge mensen die -het evangelie brengende- alle continenten overspoelden.

Iedere vestiging (wij noemen dat een basis) is zelfstandig en ontwikkelt zijn eigen bedieningen in het kader van zending en evangelisatie. Overal ter wereld zul je anders georganiseerde bases aantreffen en toch iets van dezelfde sfeer proeven.
